A REVIEW OF THE 'MOOD SWING' PROBLEM IN CLINICAL SOCIOLOGY

জয়দেব বেরা

Clinical sociology is an important branch of applied sociology. It is a subject similar to clinical psychology. The term Clinical Sociology was first used by Chicago sociologist Louis Wirth in 1931. He used the term to refer to the work of psychologists, social workers and psychiatrists as well as sociologists working in the health system. One word, clinical sociology is the practical application of sociological knowledge to aid diagnosis, treatment, training and research. In other words, clinical sociology is a form of sociological diagnosis and treatment for the social and psychological improvement of an individual or a group of members. That is, the branch of sociology in which sociological knowledge is used to help individuals or group members improve socially and emotionally is called clinical sociology. The study of ways to improve the mentality of individuals comes under this clinical sociology. Regarding the definition of clinical sociology, sociologists Glasser and Freedman (1979) said that, "Clinical sociology is the application of a variety   of critically applied practices which attempt sociological diagnosis and treatment of groups and group members in the community.” (Applied sociology for nurses- R. sreevani)

Since, clinical sociology reviews the mental issues of individuals sociologically and also solves the problems, based on this perspective we can also sociologically review the issue of ‛Mood Swing'. These mood swings can also be addressed based on clinical sociology. However, what exactly is the matter of mood swings? and discuss how this problem can be solved based on sociological diagnosis. Generally, when a person's mood or mind changes suddenly without any reason i.e. getting angry, crying, suffering from depression, feeling depressed, over reacting etc. for no reason or for a small reason is called 'mood swing'. But it is not a physical or mental disease. It is a socio-psychological stage of a person. Mood swings are not a complicated, it is a  normal problem. This problem is more noticeable in women than in men. This mood swing problem can be due to various reasons (hormonal factors, nutritional deficiency, various diseases, side effects of medicine, social-emotional stress and depression, lack of sleep, drug addiction, excessive work and study pressure etc.). This problem in women is mainly due to some hormonal factors during the period cycle. During this time, 'emotional break down' occurs in girls due to which the mind/mood also changes. As a result of mood swings, girls often fail to control themselves. As a result, people tend to overreact to their loved ones. At this time, suddenly something does not feel like that,  do not want to study, a disturbing state is created in mind. If this is the case, you will understand that you are a victim of mood swings.

This problem is fixed as soon as it occurs. This problem can also be solved based on clinical sociology or sociological diagnosis. Because, this problem is caused by biological reasons as well as socio-psychological reasons. So the things to keep in mind in that case is never make fun of a boy/girl when he/she has mood swings as psycho or naughty. At this time encourage him as much as possible, say nice romantic words, show funny stories, videos, fulfill his small needs, bring him favorite food, try to relieve anger in any way without showing anger on him, be sympathetic towards him. etc. One thing to remember is that anger cannot be shown in any way during this time, as this small mood swing issue has the power to break a self-sufficient/intimate relationship. This problem can bring darkness in the life of a boy/girl as well as a students. So this time keep the loved one always smiling and happy, reduce stress, plan to go out for a walk or have a picnic. Then you will see that this problem can be controlled very easily. Since, this problem is more common in girls, in addition to the above things, take care of her by showing love to her, giving her importance and time without talking bad to her, without neglecting her. Also the things that should be kept in mind are - exercise habits, balanced diet, adequate sleep, not taking drugs, always smiling and happy, not taking too much social and emotional stress etc. Always try to be happy because when people are happy, the hormone called 'oxytocin' is released in their body, which gives people social and mental peace. If you follow all these things, you will see that it will be possible to control the mood swing problem and the relationships will also be beautiful. If human relations are good, life will also be good. The last thing that needs to be said is that, if this problem goes too far, take him or her to a good psychologist, doctor, counselor, clinical sociologist without insulting him as crazy or psycho.Everybody Stay healthy physically- socially- psychologically.
